Introduction

The theme of my art gallery is the Protection of the Mother. My theme is about mothers caring and trying to protect their children. The artworks I have chosen for my gallery are Giovanni Bellini’s Madonna of the Meadow, Mary Cassatt’s The Boating Party and Kathe Kollwitz’s Mother with Dead Child. All of these artworks relates to my theme of the protection of the mother. In The Madonna of the Meadow, Madonna is carrying Jesus on her lap to protect him from danger. In The Boating Party, the mother is protecting the child from falling off the boat and into the water. In Mother with Dead Child, the mother is holding the dead child tightly to her chest, which signifies the love, and care she has for her child.

In this blog, The Virgin and Child with St Jerone and St Dominic by Filippino Lippi and Women of Britiain, Say Go show a connection to my theme of the Protection of the Mother. The Virgin and Child with St Jerone and St Dominic shows Virgin Mary carrying Jesus in her lap with her arms around him and looking at him in a vulnerable way. It shows that Virgin Mary is protecting and caring for baby Jesus. In Women of Britain, Say Go, there are two women and a boy. One of the women is the mother of the child.
